Xi’an is home to one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century – the “Underground Army” of life-size clay Terra-Cotta Warriors. Built to guard the first Emperor of China’s tomb, it is estimated that there are over 8,000 life-size terra-cotta figures and
horses buried here. The grave’s creators were buried alive in the mausoleum to ensure its secrecy…until it was discovered in 1974. The site was opened to the public in 1980.
The Terra-Cotta Warriors are a “must-see” when visiting Xi’an. It was without doubt, the highlight of our trip to this historic ancient city. Share YOUR experiences of Xi’an with our readers.
