1. San Francisco, CA
It’s no secret that San Francisco is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. It’s also a top foodie destination. We may be a teeny bit biased because we live here, but it is really is a very special place. Whisk your honey away on a scenic twilight bay cruise with the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the city skyline as your backdrop. Explore North Beach and its outdoor cafes, a perfect spot for a cappuccino and espresso. Enjoy a romantic Italian dinner, then take your honey to see Beach Blanket Babylon, a hilarious, one-of-a-kind, only-in-San Francisco show featuring song, dance and comedy – it’s so good, we’ve seen it four times! Visit Fisherman’s Wharf and feast on San Francisco’s famous sourdough bread and fresh Dungeness Crab. For a romantic setting overlooking the ocean, head over to the Cliff House for cocktails and dinner as the sun sets over the Pacific. If you have time, take a fun day trip along California’s spectacular coastline and visit Monterey and Carmel – both offer a truly romantic setting for Valentine’s Day. Paris in the Spring! What a perfect time of year (beat the crowds and the heat) to visit what many people believe to be the most romantic city in the world. Cruise along the picturesque Seine River, visit world-class museums (Musee d’Orsay is our favorite) and historical monuments, admire beautiful flowering gardens of Tuileries, Luxembourg and Versailles, stroll along the scenic boulevard of St. Germain-des-Pres and enjoy coffee, pastries and people-watching at one of the quaint sidewalk cafes. Explore Paris at your own leisurely pace or take one of these fun guided tours:
Versailles makes a fun day trip from Paris. Allow plenty of time to walk around the palace and gardens at your leisure and admire the views – or take a professionally guided tour and learn about the history of Chateau de Versailles. See where the historic Treaty of Versailles (peace settlement signifying the end of World War I) was signed on June 28, 1919.
Tour Louis XIV’s and Marie Antoinette’s Royal Apartments (the Grand Apartments), the exquisite Royal Chapel and the stunning Hall of Mirrors (one of the most famous rooms in the world). Explore the spectacular Gardens of Versailles (Jardins de Versailles) – one of the most visited sites in France. Filled with lush landscaping, ornate statues and sculptures, labyrinths and incredible fountains, it’s the most beautiful garden we’ve ever seen. Discover the magical sights and sounds at Versailles’ Musical Gardens and Fountain Shows – especially the “must-see” dazzling Night Fountains Show. This is one photo opportunity that you won’t want to miss.
Every year we look forward to Travel & Leisure’s “World’s Best Awards.” We love it when our “City by the Bay” makes the list – and our hometowns too (London and New York)! And of course we always like to see if our favorite destinations are mentioned 🙂
Looks like one of our cities made the “Overall Best Cities” list – can you guess which one? Two made it into the Top 10 U.S Cities (way to go, San Francisco!)… and one of our all-time favorite destinations (Florence) ranked highly in two categories. Continue reading →
