This year we had the opportunity to be out on San Francisco Bay during the city’s annual Fleet Week celebrations – and it was amazing! We had a great vantage point aboard a Hornblower yacht watching the Blue Angles Air Show as they performed their precision aerial acrobatics and death-defying stunts right over our heads and along the San Francisco skyline. Watch our short video above – be sure to turn up the sound to get the full effect.

Fleet Week San Francisco – October 6-11, 2011
This year, Fleet Week San Francisco celebrates the “Centennial of Naval Aviation.” The official Blue Angels Air Show takes place on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, 2011. The fun event features a Parade of U.S. Navy Ships, Survey Flights and Practice Air Shows, Blue Angels Air Shows, Ship Tours… and more! Get an early start if you’re driving into San Francisco over the weekend – the traffic and crowds are intense.
Travis’s Air Expo 2011 spanned two days and included air demonstrations by the world-famous USAF Thunderbirds (F-16 Fighting Falcons – see pic below), amazing aerobatic performances by a variety of pilots, ground attractions – and more airplane displays than we could count!
This was our first Air Show at an air base (we’ve watched the Blue Angels perform during Fleet Week in San Francisco over the last 20+ years) and it did not disappoint. We arrived early on the first day of the show (Saturday @ 9am) primarily to beat the traffic, crowds… and the heat. Thousands of people flock to this free air show every year and the temperature was expected to be in the high 90s my mid-afternoon. As it turned out, the unexpected gale-force winds kept us cool, but that didn’t stop the pilots from taking to the skies and performing their magic.
San Francisco Fleet Week 2010 is fast-approaching! This year, Fleet Week San Francisco takes place on October 7-12, 2010. The official Blue Angels Air Show takes place on Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10. Arrive early because it’s expected to be another BIG year. Past seasons have drawn millions of spectators.
