Napa Valley and Sonoma Wine Country Tour from San Francisco

Home » Blog » Napa Valley and Sonoma Wine Country Tour from San Francisco

Thinking of visiting Napa and Sonoma Wine Country this year and want to avoid peak season crowds? Consider a visit during the Spring or early Summer. Although both areas are popular year-round tourist destinations, wine country tends to be especially busy from late summer to mid-October during harvest “crush” season.

Take a fun Napa and Sonoma Wine Country Tour from San Francisco and enjoy a leisurely day of wine-tasting in California’s historic wine country. No need to worry about drinking and driving. Sit back, relax and enjoy the views as you travel by luxury, air-conditioned coach across the Golden Gate Bridge to scenic Napa and Sonoma Valley. And yes… there’s free Wi-Fi onboard, as well as an expert friendly narrated tour guide to answer any questions and keep you entertained as you wind your way through picturesque wine country.

Tour Highlights: Three Winery Tours & Tastings

This fun full-day Napa and Sonoma tour includes visits to three wineries – Nicolson Ranch Winery, Madonna Estate Winery and Sutter Home. Learn everything you want to know about the history of winemaking during your guided vineyard and barrel room tours. Enjoy sampling fine California wines from the world-renowned Carneros grape-growing region.

Nicholson Ranch Winery

First stop on the tour takes you to Nicholson Ranch Winery, nestled on a 40-acre estate in the southern foothills of Sonoma. Admire beautiful vineyard views as you taste handcrafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot varietals.

Madonna Estate

Next stop is Napa Valley’s Madonna Estate, located in the Carneros region, next to Highway 12. Run by the Bartolucci family (the third oldest winemaking family in Napa Valley), they have found success with their organically grown grapes and Estate Bottle wines, combining traditional and modern wine-making techniques. Enjoy a leisurely guided tour, followed by a tasting of the winery’s organic, premium quality hand-crafted wines.

Yountville – Culinary Capital of the Valley (free time)

Your tour continues on to the charming town of Yountville (our favorite Napa Valley destination) where you’ll take a break and enjoy free time for lunch and shopping (at your own expense). One of the things we love the most about Yountville is that everything is within easy walking distance.

Known as the Culinary Capital of the Valley, Yountville draws foodies from around the world. It’s home to many highly-acclaimed restaurants, including the world-famous French Laundry. Here are a few of our favorite restaurants that you may want to check out for lunch: Bouchon, Bistro Jeanty, Pacific Blues Cafe and Bottega. For something more casual, if you just fancy a coffee and a quick snack, grab an outside courtyard table at Bouchon Bakery – it’s great for people-watching.

If you have a little spare time after lunch, visit the historic V Marketplace 1870, a charming brick complex of upscale specialty shops.

Sutter Home Winery

Last stop on this popular tour is Sutter Home Winery, located on Highway 29 in the heart of Napa Valley. Founded in 1874, the winery has been a part of the Trinchero family since 1948. Famous for creating White Zinfandel in the 1970s, Sutter Home is one of the nation’s most recognized winemaking names. Enjoy sampling different varietals in the winery’s tasting room before heading back to San Francisco.

Cheers!
