Musée d'Orsay, Paris

Impressionist Masterpieces

If you’re passionate about Impressionist paintings, you’re going to love Musée d’Orsay. It’s our favorite museum in Paris. The popular museum welcomes millions of visitors a year. Musée d’Orsay’s s Impressionist and Post-Impressionist galleries (located on the upper floor and median level Lille Gallery) feature masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Edouard Manet, Henri Rousseau, Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Edouard VuillardEdgar Degas, Pierre Bonnard, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, and other preeminent artists.

Located on the Left Bank of the Seine, the museum opened in 1986 in the former Orsay railway station. Since then, the building has been transformed from an old rail station into one of the world’s most beautiful museums. Daylight streams through the long arched glass roof, giving it an open and spacious modern look.

The term “Impressionists” was born in 1874. Today, Impressionism is recognized as one of the most important art movements in the 19th century. The Musée d’Orsay contains some of the world’s finest collections of 19th century art – and a compilation of fine sculptures. To keep ahead of the crowds, we suggest you start at the museum’s top level and work your way down. Allow at least 2-3 hours to truly enjoy the museum. There’s a lot to see!
