Golf Tips for a Perfect Golf Vacation

1. If you have decided that you want to go golfing on your next vacation, the first thing to do is choose the atmosphere you want.

Do you want to golf all day, every day of your trip? Do you want to do some sightseeing or other tourist activities? Do you want it to be mostly a beach vacation, a skiing trip, or a camping adventure, with just one day of golf? This should be the first step to determine where you want to go golfing.

2. The second step is to figure out where and when you want to go. This depends, at least in part, on the type of atmosphere you want. Golf courses are located nearly anywhere in the world, from beaches to deserts to lush landscapes or rolling hills. Keep in mind the local weather at different times of the year; you don’t want your vacation to be ruined by having to golf in the rain. Choose the type of environment you want, and then find a golf course in that area.

Alternatively, you can decide to visit one of the many golf resorts located nationwide. These provide championship-level courses and many additional amenities, and are usually a great choice if you want this vacation to be a true golfing vacation. One final note on choosing your golf vacation, there are many golf memberships and free gifts available to golfers that are looking for some variety.

3. Once you know the approximate location of your trip, choose the specific golf course(s) that you want to visit. If you are staying at a golf resort, you will be surrounded by top-quality golf courses. Otherwise, research the top courses in the area. This can be done using nearly any golf magazine or web site. You’ll need to make sure that the courses you plan to visit are open to the public and fit within your budget; the price range for greens fees can vary widely, even between courses in the same approximate geographical area. In many cases, greens fees must be paid for months in advance to secure you a spot.

4. Once you’re ready to go, you’ll need to figure out your club situation. If you want to bring your own set of golf clubs, purchase a travel bag so that you can take them with you when you fly to your destination. If you don’t have a decent set of your own, plan to rent clubs once you get there.

5. Golf travel insurance may be recommended if you book your golf vacation through a travel agent. This type of insurance protects you against trip cancellations, medical occurrences that prevent you from playing, injuries on the course, the loss of your golf equipment, and other golf-related events. This insurance can help make sure that you have an enjoyable golf vacation.
